GreenScapes delivers organic land care according to the NOFA standards and practices. Services include organic lawn care and irrigation management, installation and maintenance. Run by Frank Koll who is a Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor, an Irrigation Contractor and a NOFA accredited organic land care professional, GreenScapes advocates taking care of landscapes as a system and with an integrated approach. This means that we evaluate the existing conditions of your site including the state of your soil, your lawn and turf, perennials beds, shrubs beds and trees. Then, and only then, do we make recommendations. These recommendations are based on the functions we are trying to accomplish while at the same time creating a long term healthy environment that minimizes harm to the natural environment. Organic land care uses nature as its guide to create healthy landscapes that are sustainable and require less maintenance.
The Northeast Organic Farming Association (www.nofa.org) is a non-profit organization of more than 4,000 farmers, gardeners and consumers working to promote healthy food, organic farming practices and a cleaner environment. It has chapters in seven states including Massachusetts. The Standards for Organic Land Care were written in 2000-2001 by a group of practicing land care professionals, scientists, concerned citizens and technical advisors. NOFA certifies professionals once they have taken intensive training in organic land care and practices and once they have passed an exam. NOFA professionals are leaders in organic land care because they are tied into all of the current research and thinking about organic land care, a field that is constantly getting new data and scientific information to better guide our efforts.
